Recent shootings...

I would like to call to attention the recent shootings that have seemed to occur over the past few days, ones that quietly trouble me. Of those, I speak of the recent shooting in Tucson, another in Boston, and a 10 year old's killing of his mother with his .22 caliber rifle.

What has me worrying about these instances is the repercussions it will have on the public who legally owns a firearm. I myself am an avid fan of shooting, and I fully support hunting, though I myself don't hunt. I worry what the politician big wigs would think of these shootings, as a "light" that shows that guns in the hands of the public is an extremely bad idea. I believe that this is not the case.

For one thing, the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States specifically states that the "right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Quite frankly, could it not have been written anymore plainly? While the issue of whether or not the 2nd Amendment is an individual or a collective right, the recent Supreme Court cases of Heller v. Washington, D.C. and McDonald v. City of Chicago have ruled that the right to keep and bear arms is in fact an individual right. For as long as I have cared (early childhood), this has always been an individual right for all Americans.

What the recent shootings would come to hurt is the reputation of those who own firearms legally. There will always be individuals who wish to do ill-will to others, with guns being the easiest route to doing carnage on any level, from street drive-bys to Virginia Tech. Creating more laws that restrict the access to firearms to everyone DOES NOT solve the problem. Criminals are called criminals because they don't obey the law, so what makes a politician think they will obey a new law?

Think about that for a moment...

Firearms to me are an important element to identifying America. No, we don't go around shooting people that we don't agree with. The first rule I learned in operating a firearm (at the age of 5) and the most important rule in handling ANY firearm is to never point it at another human being. I never have the intention of wanting to bring harm to another through the use of a gun. It is against my morals to do such things.

However, if there comes the time when an individual or individuals wish to bring ill-will and bodily harm to myself or immediate others, I will take action to protect my well-being and those I care for. If that means using a firearm in a tense situation such as that, so be it. It boils down to the basics of nature: the stronger always wins. Predator v. prey, defender v. aggressor. I never desire to be the aggressor, let me be clear on that.

There is more to this subject I wish to add, but I shall save that for another time.

I am truly sorry for the tragedies that have befallen recently in these shootings. I wish that such madness would end, but I don't believe no end will ever occur. All I can say is this: be prepared.

Peace,

The Maverick

New Years, new beginnings

2011 has arrived, once again ushering in a new year for all. Got any resolutions for yourself? I'm not exactly the one for making resolutions, they seem to be the sort of thing that no one can keep and never hold through for the entire year.

My plans for 2011? Just simply enjoy life and make the most of it. I implore you all to do the same. I have no resolution to keep other than to keep on living and continuing my journey through this little thing called life. I have no idea where this will go, but I'm sure to enjoy it.

And what am I looking forward to most this year? November 11, 2011 of course. Specifically at 11:11 in the day. Yes, it may sound silly, but I like silly things at times. This being one of them.

That is all I have to say for this evening readers. Carry on!

Peace,

The Maverick

In case you're feeling down...

No matter how down in the dumps you maybe, or how blue you may get, always know this: you were the fastest sperm!

EXCLUSION: I can't say the same about those who were born via in vitro ferilisation.

Concerning mistakes

"No one can learn anything from being perfect; the only true way to achieve a better self is to fail. To fail is to make mistakes, and from there, you can learn anything."

Every now and then, I will have some sort of epiphany in a random task I am doing, from showers, doing dishes, or just simply walking. Well, this one came to me while I was in the shower one day.

Now obviously, this should be something everyone would be familiar with you, even hopefully to you, dear reader. But it's more to it than you believe.

Growing up, from the moment we are aware of our own self and our environment, we begin to look, touch, and grab anything we can. And eventually we will come across something that is far too hot to touch, an object sharp and pointy, and an object much harder than what we imagined when we bonked our head upon it. These are all mistakes, and from those mistakes we come to learn.

Now I wish for you to apply this simple train of thought to anything and everything you do, regardless of what this maybe (preferably not murder or genocide or anything negative to human nature). This was something I have come to take to heart in recent years, having reached my low point earlier back in high school (my junior year to be specific).

Learning from your mistakes can give you an optimistic outlook on life, which is something everyone can use. Knowing what not to do wrong next time can give you new meaning to be right and start anew. Take this thought to heart and know that there is truly no wrong that can't be righted.

And no one, no matter how hard they may try, cannot be perfect. Mistakes are a part of human nature; buildings will fail from time to time, planes will drop the sky whenever, cars will still never be 100% safe. There is no such thing as perfection; when you're perfect, you don't learn anything. You can only learn from being proficient, and being proficient requires making mistakes.

So go out my readers and make mistakes. I'm sure you will learn something new each and every time.

Peace,

The Maverick

p.s. I do hope the mistakes you make do not bring harm or ill will to others. Avoid this if at all possible.

In the beginning...

This evening marks my 21st Christmas of my life, with the hopes that I will share many more to come with others. Aside from the usual gifts that tickle my fancy, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a CR-48, courtesy of Google, as part of their pilot program to test out the new Chrome OS. And here I be, using this handy dandy little device.

From here, where do I wish to go? Well, to you dear readers, I wish to share with you what thoughts I do have from time to time. Anything and everything, I might add, concerning just an idea, a quote, a movie, or the latest news. You may come to find me an obnoxious, interesting, droll, dull, or curious individual, depending upon who you are. And as for you, whomever you may be, I dearly hope to hear what you may have to say, whether it be the topic of the title or some other random happenstance that maybe upon your mind.

And to that, I end this short blurb for the evening. May your Christmas day been a merry one, and I do hope that tomorrow will be just as merry.

Peace,

The Maverick
